Another update

Hi folks,

Thanks to everyone for leaving such super messages and texts and for the growing collection of cards arriving daily on my mat - my sherpa picks them up and, once I've opened and read them, puts them on display - they really are much appreciated.

I am, so everyone tells me, doing well and (most of the time) the pain is very manageable - why is it that night time is the worst? I've woken up this morning feeling tired and uncomfortable and fractious and, wouldn't you know it, soooooooooooo not like crafting! I know I have challenges that I would love to participate in but I just don't feel up for it so am going to take a blogging and crafting vacation .......... though I will check by and see what's going on every now and again.

I'm back at the doctors on November 1st so will post another update then and let you all know how I'm doing then.

Thanks again to everyone and I shall return - hopefully better than ever, soon

EDITED TO READ: that sounded a bit pathetic when I read it back ...... I'm only taking a blogging break because I'm currently unable to craft and I'm not able to get about much either so not much news to post about!!! Trust me peeps, I shall be back as soon as I can!

Hi folks - I'm BAAAAACK

and wanting to thank you all for messages of support both here and on craftbubble and texts too - it's so lovely of you all to think of me. I've had lots of lovely hand made cards from pals too, and I hope to post a photo of all of their lovely makes sometime soon. Just wanted to say how much it's been appreciated to know that so many of my pals have been thinking about me in my absence.

I've had a hip replacement and all went well and I feel as though I am making good progress - my physio is pleased with me ...... small world when I found that not only is he the godson of a friend of mine but also that I went to school with his dad!!!! ALSO another patient ended up in the bed opposite my own and we share a close friend in common - SPOOKY? I should say so.

The hospital I was in was fabulous and everyone so friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble for anyone I encountered, from the cleaners upwards - even the food was good! Such a change from previous hospital experiences too though, with the best will in the world I AM hoping that will be an end to it for a while now!

Saturday is normally my day for crafting challenges and there are a few of them .....

Over on Bah Humbug this week's challenge is to make a Christmas card "WITH MEN IN MIND"!!! YIKES

On the Simply Less Is More blog their present challenge is to make a Clean And Simple card using POLKA DOTS!

I'm anxious to get back and crafting. My pal, Debbie, came in to visit Barbara and I and brought me in a magazine which just so happened to be Quick Cards and lo and behold there's my ugly mug on page 61!!! Woo Hoo - the staff teased me about "knowing me before I was famous"!! I also spotted fellow crafters Ann Banks and Sharon Noble in the same issue as well as articles by Katina Killey and Katie Berberich, both talented crafters.

Anyway, happy Saturday - I'm off to do my physio exercises and practise crafting on my crutches - which I just KNOW will be returned to the hospital COVERED in glitter (purple of course!).

Message to friends and followers

The purple princess is away from her desk today and for the next few days ..... due to a quick trip to hospital but I hope to be back home and on-line by the weekend.

In the meantime - missing all my crafting buddies and friends who keep an eye on me here as well as my crafting, already!!

Have a great week

Happy Monday

Afternoon,

Sorry this post's a little late in the day but had a bit of a busy one for one reason or another!

Been meaning to crack on with the entry for the FOOD themed challenge over on Bah Humbug but struggled to find a food related image ....... the one I found was really a smidge tiny for a card so I decided that, since I need a whole load of tags too, tags would work for me! Whadd'ya think?

Materials used:
  • Quickutz die used to cut the tag from red metallic card
  • Scalloped rectangle of striped paper
  • Die cut circle of white card edged using a red pro marker
  • Funstamps image inked in Memento tuxedo black on to white card and cut out
  • Pro markers to colour
  • Crystal stickles to simulate the icing
  • Darcies sentiment inked on to the striped panel using Memento tuxedo black
  • Silver holographic ribbon to attach to parcel.
Hope you like it ........

Also hoping that your Monday is going well and look forward to reading your comments

Morning and welcome to Sunday morning

Morning all,

Having been away and having had to miss my crafting I have come home feeling craft starved and eager to enter some challenges .....

Last week's challenge on Craft Mad and Loving It was set by Lauren who is, by her own admission, an aficionado of all things Halloween and she went with the theme of "Bubble Bubble, toil and trouble"! She set this last Sunday and there's a new challenge, yet to be set, this morning so I thought I just might be able to sneak one in under the wire for this one as I just happened to acquire some suitable images whilst away!

Materials used:
  • 5" square, 300gsm scalloped white card and matching envelope
  • Post it with a 5cm circle cut out
  • Distress Inks in Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade - applied with a Tim Holtz blending tool
  • Inkadinkado image inked in Memento Tuxedo Black centred on the inked circle
  • Sparkle 'n Sprinkle sentiment inked in Memento Tuxedo Black on to the card
  • Faber Castell Pitt artist pen used to connect the cobweb

Hope you like it ..... FYI the owl image was also inked up again and stamped on both the insert and envelope ....... to scare the postman!!!! - NOT!

I'm kind of hoping to complete my food related Christmas card for the Bah Humbug challenge and, if posted, the new Sunday themed challenge (this week to be set by Cherry) over on Craft Mad and Loving It, so you might want to check back for a second post later - if you've time!

I do hope that your Sunday is motoring along and that you are enjoying some Autumnal sunshine. Have a fab day.

2nd post - challenge entry!

Target acquired folks (new gas fire, that is), so I was free to craft this afternoon AND whilst watching Hornblower starring Gregory Peck - a great old movie.

For the Simply Less Is More challenge the theme is COCKTAILS and here's my take:

Personality Cocktail Recipe:

3 parts Courage

2 parts Difance (but I feel this may be a typo as I've NO IDEA what it means!)

1 part Cleverness

And a Splash of Passion - served over ice

so I clicked on the above link again and this time got .......

3 parts Elegance

2 parts Bravery

1 part Delight

And a Splash of Tolerance and Shake vigorously

First out of the gate was this card for the Simply Less Is More challenge ....

Materials used:
  • 5" square, 300gsm scalloped white card and matching envelope
  • Red holographic card
  • Sparkle 'n Sprinkle image inked in Memento tuxedo black on to white card and edged using a S.U. marker
  • Pro Markers to colour
  • Glossy Accents to give the illusion of the glass
  • Narrow white satin ribbon coloured using a deep red alcohol marker and tied in an off centre knot
Next came this card which was taking the inspiration from one of Cherry's photos over on Craft Mad and Loving It.....

Materials used:
  • 5" square, 300gsm scalloped card and matching envelope
  • Spellbinders nestabilities in three sizes
  • Silver mirri card, Purple holographic card and purple glitter hand made paper
  • Sparkle 'n Sprinkle image and sentiment both inked in Memento tuxedo black
  • Purple glitter ribbon
  • 3D foam squares

Hope you like the above - curry this evening, catch y'all later!

Happy Saturday folks

Woo Hoo, Saturday again ..... as my regular readers will know (and I'm sorry to have neglected you all recently but I'm sure most of your know why!) Saturdays in my home are normally challenge days and I HOPE that today will be no different, HOWEVER, we have an important task to achieve today and that is to find a new gas fire ..... these things always happen when you're away don't they? SO, you may have to check back later than usual to see if I've managed a card for the Bah Humbug Friday challenge which, this week is FOOD! There's also CMLI Saturday challenge (this week set by Cherry) which features taking inspiration from a photograph of a butterfly and the Simply Less Is More challenge, this week's Clean And Simple topic is COCKTAILS - all have been sadly missed whilst I was internet free recently!

Anyway, I did say that I would post some photos of the ship on which I took my recent cruise so .......

Our cabin (panoramic!)

Black & White ball in the Queens Room - I'm afraid they host afternoon tea here too - every day at 3:30!!!

The Royal Court Theatre - the scene for our nightly shows

The Grand Lobby! Aptly named huh!

The view from our cabin during the gale force SIX!! I couldn't take a photo during the gale force ELEVEN it was waaay too scary!

Hope you've enjoyed my snaps. Happy Saturday - catch y'all later!

2nd post of the day - please scroll down to read earlier post

Thought I'd nip back for a second post with a couple of holiday snaps! I'll maybe post some more tomorrow - perhaps some of the ship - if you'd like to see them!

New York Skyline - as our ship approached at dawn

Verrazano bridge - we sailed under this bridge, with JUST 9'0" clearance!!!

Statue of Liberty

Happy Friday and have a great weekend folks

We're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!! and so's the Friday Funny!

Hi folks,

How I missed you all during the last 17 days. The cruise was an absolute blast and we made some great new friends as well as enjoying time with our old friends so .... Mary and Barry and Nancy and Joe and Cathy and Mark - HI, if you're checking out my blog.

Unfortunately, the internet on board ship was both slow and extortionately expensive so I didn't get to post as often as I would have liked but I hope not to have lost too many followers due to boredom! I also missed crafting and can hardly wait to get cracking on some challenges again ..... and sooooooon!

Would like to welcome the new followers who joined whilst I was away, Kathryn and Pincelyagujamaricruz and Barb - lovely to see you all and I hope you'll stop by again and maybe leave me a comment too.

It being Friday and having missed the last couple - I thought you might like to see this, sent to me by Jacky - thanks Jacky. It came to me this morning entitled "When computer experts get bored"!!!! - ENJOY

Happy Friday and have a great weekend

Sailing on a Tuesday!

Hi readers,

Me again, this time with an update from just beyond mid Atlantic!!! We’re enjoying our voyage and today find the sea as calm as a mill pond following a day of gale force six, which still felt pretty calm by comparison with the gale force 11 of last week – I can tell you!!!

It’s a beautiful day today and we’ve been sat out on our balcony reading and sunbathing!! It’s warm too – but it won’t be long before we get back to the U.K. and I’ve no idea what the temperature will be when we get there, on Friday!

The entertainment has been splendid onboard and last night there was a concert of the National Symphony Orchestra featuring American tunes – who knew Rhapsody in Blue was around 20 minutes long? Well, not me – for sure! They will be playing again for us on Thursday and this time it will be a mini Last Night at the Proms so promises to be quite a rousing evening! Hard to imagine that we’ve been away from home for over a month and are speeding back to Southampton at over 20 knots (wish I knew what that was in mph!). We’ve also been treated to some shows featuring the ships company of singers and dancers who did a marvellous job in the stormy weather too – with no casualties, thank goodness. Only one performance missed during the worst of it.

I’m almost ashamed to mention the food, available 24 hours every day and how good it’s been – my clothes all appear to have shrunk!!! How DOES that happen?

We’ve also made some lovely new friends in the shape of Lorraine and Don and Nancy and Joe from Florida, Kathy and Mark from Iowa and Nessie from Coatbridge, Scotland! Our collective brain cells have resulted in some quite respectable scores at both the music and general knowledge quizzes too!

All too soon our vacation will be over but I must admit that I am sorely missing my creative outlet of card making. I brought markers and stamped images to colour but ....... it really isn’t quite the same and I have no glossy accents, glitter or stickles with which to “finish” my images so they must all wait till I get home! Of course, by that time it will be on to the Christmas cards, tags, etc so, ROSIE, I hope you have some great recipe challenges over on Craftbubble!

I’ll leave you this post with some photos of our exit from the harbour at New York, a lovely view from our cabin and one of the National Symphony Orchestra (well, I’m sure it’s only really a part of but ....)

Till next time readers, enjoy your days

Welcome to Thursday in the north atlantic!

Hi folks,

In case you’re wondering what’s been happening ...... We left the beautiful city of Quebec with every intention of returning sometime - now, if we'd been on either of the other two cruise ships leaving harbour at the same time then we would have been back the same day!!! GALE FORCE ELEVEN winds hit our ship and swells of 7-8m made for a very interesting ride throughout Wednesday October 5th. Our Cruise Director said that, in 30 years aboard ship he had only previously sailed a gale Force TEN!!! Hmmf. Naturally all outside activities were cancelled and walkways closed off - like we could have gotten the doors open anyway!!! Most people took to their cabins as cutlery and glasses were falling from tables, lifts out of action and people discovering the joys of seasickness! I'm a terrible sailor and had previously been taking tablets so felt absolutely fine. The planned entertainment got cancelled as the entertainers had virtually no chance on the stage! Instead we were treated to the backing band playing sounds of the big bands instead - I retired early. HOWEVER, one of the gas turbines caught fire during the show and generated an alarm - all of the crew were summoned to their muster stations and the kennels evacuated!! OH MY - you should have seen the passengers darting to their state rooms and dressing in warm clothes - you'd have thought we were on the Titanic!!!! This morning dawned calm and balmy - well only a gale force six!, the outside deck walkways are still out of action but it's much pleasanter aboard and easier to move about too! We are likely to arrive back in New York two hours later than planned (unlike the other two vessels who will arrive a minimum of 24 hours late and possibly more) making our approach to New York at 06:30 so we hope to get some nice dawn approach shots - yee haa - that's IF we can persuade ourselves to get up early! In the meantime I’m rather proud of my solo performance at the Rock and Roll music trivia quiz where I scored 11 out of 15 (the highest score being 13) and besides .... who remembers the lemon drops?!?!?!

Here are some shots taken recently and I hope to put a short video of the gale force 6 seas on my blog if you want to take a look - I couldn't get a video of the gale force 10 as it was just too bad - hard enough to stay upright let alone aim a camera!!

Hope you are all enjoying your day, can’t believe our pals disembark to fly home to the U.K. tomorrow!

If it's Tuesday ..... it must be Quebec!

Hi there, me again. 2nd day in Quebec and under our own steam today. We took a tour yesterday which encompassed a beautiful island, Montmorency falls, a sugar shack (where we found out how maple syrup is made) with a maple syrup tasting afterwards – mmmmmm. Quebec really IS a beautiful city, so clean and friendly and French, which rather taxed my schoolgirl French!!! Surprising how many words came back to me though. We took the funicular railway to the top of Quebec (at a cost of $2 each person each way) and enjoyed the scenery and wildlife!

We set sail from here in about two hours and make our way back to New York on our way home.

Hope you enjoy today’s selection of photos peeps.

Monday, 3 October 2011

Hi there, Monday morning and all's well!

Hi there,

Today sees us docking in Quebec and we have plans to take a tour which promises the sight of a waterfall higher than Niagara!!! Blimey - you better hope I charged my camera because that sounds spectacular to me!

Hope your Monday is going great guns and that the weather isn't too awful. I've been hearing conflicting reports - some say it's going to snow (a lot) in October and other reports promise an Indian Summer - I'm hoping the latter is nearer the mark - ENJOY

Happy Sunday

Hi there,

Where's Kathy today? by my reckoning today we're in transit to Quebec - hopefully, I'm having a ball and NOT being seasick - but you can never tell! Wish me luck.

Happy Birthday today, to my crafting friend, Sheila - have a splendid day.

Have a great Sunday

Hello and welcome to Sunday

Hello folks,

How’s your day going? Yesterday started with a bit of an “incident” as we were wakened to the sound of bagpipes!!! I KNOW!! And at ONLY 08:00 too – whatever next? Well, there we were, in Halifax, Nova Scotia our first port of call in Canada. It was foggy and the rain was coming down in stair rods (if you’re not old enough to remember stair rods ....... ask your mum!). We docked early in the morning and our tour was booked for mid day ....... a tour aboard an amphibious craft!!! Like we needed to get wetter! Given that Nova Scotia experiences over 300 rainy days per year it shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise but what DID come as a surprise was the lack of undercover seating on said amphibious craft ... we thought we might drown! Fortunately the tour guide handed out some super yellow fashion accessories in the form of ponchos, including a spare to sit on! Perfect. Ever tried to keep those cellophane poncho’s (saran wrap to any U.S. followers) in place? Trickier thank you might think, particularly on the water! An interesting experience and we followed it up with a get on get off double decker bus tour of Halifax which, on a nicer day, is a pretty city. Would we return? Yes indeed but perhaps with more efficient water proof clothing – especially now we know about their rainfall!!

Anyhoo, next stop is Quebec (tomorrow) on our whistle stop tour and then back down to New York so not entirely sure when I’ll be able to post again so do check back from time to time to see how we’re getting on and thanks for stopping by. Today, we’re actually at sea all day and have been participating in some of the onboard activities, like the movie trivia and general knowledge quiz – we didn’t do too badly thank heavens!

OH MY though, the food is astonishing – in availability (24 hours!) and quantity as well as quality – guess none of my clothes will fit by the time I get home! We’re having great fun with our friends and have seen some fabulous places and here are some photos for you

Amphibious water craft at Halifax - Saturday

Sunny Newport, Rhode Island - Wednesday

Foggy Boston!!!, Massachusetts - Thursday
Beautiful Bar Harbour - Friday

Hope you are enjoying your virtual cruise aboard the Queen Mary 2 - I'll stop by again, when I can, with  more photos

Happy Saturday

Hi there,

Of course it is challenge day on Craft Mad and Loving It and also over on Simply Less Is More but I'm not able to participate this week, sadly, because I am off the coast of Halifax today.

I do hope you will pop over and have a look at the above challenge sites and maybe even have a go for me ...... I know I shall be having a ball but part of me will be missing those challenges.

Happy Birthday's today go to my pals, SUE and KAREN - have a extra special day you two.

Have a great Saturday
